Problems installing Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express?
Check to see if your “c:Program Files” folder has the “Compress contents to save disk space” enabled. If it is then disable this for the folder. You only need to set it for the folder only and not all the subfolders. You can re-enable it later after installing SQL Server.
Try the installation again. This worked for me when I was installing Visual Studio (2008 Express and 2010 Beta 2). It seems SQL Server has a problem with compressed folders.
